Fibertronix launches its new generation of hydrogen resistance Fibers

Fibertronix, Sweden October 1st, 2010 – Fibertronix AB announces today the introduction of its next generation of hermetic specialty fibers. The new fiber offers improved resistance against hydrogen, moisture and corrosive operating conditions for numerous applications, including fiber optic sensors, towed arrays, oil and gas, and defence industries.

Typically, the standard optical fibers are doped with germanium, such fibers when exposed to hydrogen or moisture rich environments, develop permanent high loss defects, which limit the life time of the optical fiber. Since carbon coating offers resistance to hydrogen and moisture, the fiber with carbon coating performs much longer in harsh environment limiting the expense of replacing the sensor fiber and improving the system performance and life time.  The Fibertronix specially designed hermetic carbon coating is a thin layer ofcarbon directly bonded to the glass surface of the optical fiber.

The carbon coating is available as standard SM, MM, pure silica core and high bandwidth pure core fiber with polyimide, high temperature acrylate, silicone and standard acrylate coatings. The carbon with polyimide coating makes the fiber extremely robust and durable at elevated temperatures

Fibertronix will be showcasing its specialty fiber products portfolio at SPIE Workshop on Specialty Fiber in Oaxaca, Mexico from 13-15th Oct, 2010. For more information, visit our booth at the workshop or visit our web site at www.fibertronix.com
